The objective of the Bangladesh National Museum is to preserve and display the cultural properties and heritage of Bangladesh. The museum was inaugurated on November 17, 1983 incorporating the cultural properties of the old Dhaka Museum established on August 7, 1913. As a multi-disciplinary museum, it is currently the biggest repository of antiquities and art objects in Bangladesh, and also includes archives in natural history.
The museum also houses a unique collection on rural panorama through paintings; ethnographic specimens; archaeological objects; sculptures of Buddhist, Jaina and Hindu religions in stone, metal and terracotta. It is also a storehouse of pre-historic metal works, porcelain, glasswares, and documents of national heroes; on the language movement and freedom struggle relics and mementoes of martyred intellectuals.
Four curatorial departments deal with the museum objects with respect to collection, preservation, exhibition, research and publication: (1) Department of History and Classical Art; (2) Department of Ethnography and Decorative Art; (3) Department of Natural History; (4) Department of Contemporary Art and World Civilization.

The collections at this date back to an ancient city called Pundranagar which existed from 4th century B.C. to 14th century A.D. This could be of interest to scholars interested in ancient coins and precious stones.
- National Museum of Science & Technology (NMST)

The NMST was established in 1965 as an informal science and technology education center. Its main objective is to popularize science and technology. Among its unique collections are the oldest printing press in Dhaka (1883); Lino Compose Machine and various other scientific objects. This institution also publishes science magazines in Bangladesh.
- Osmany Museum

Tel: 880-821-714361Osmany Museum was established in 1987 in the Sylhet City situated at the northeastern part of Bangladesh. The museum was founded after the name of General Ataul Gani Osmany, Commander in Chief of the great liberation war. 'Noor Manjil', one of the residences of General Osmany, was transformed into a museum with exhibits related to Osmany's works and life. Different events of liberation war are also painted in oil color and displayed in the gallery.

- Zia Memorial Museum

The building was constructed on a small hill in 1913. This commemorative museum houses the Late President Ziaur Rahman's mementos and personal belongings. It was established in 1983 with 12 galleries.
